In order to have the surgical wounds healed successfully, it is advisable to follow a few basic rules. Following the advices of the dental surgeon you could create the conditions to be able to avoid complaints and complications during the healing time.
8 tips you should follow:
1. Do not remove the dental gauze before it is time to do so. It is recommended to have it removed at least 20 minutes after having the surgery done.
2. Do not touch the surgical area, do not rinse on the day of the surgery and on the following days neither.
3. Keep the surgical area cooled from the outside surface for 20 minutes in every hour. It reduces the chance of a possible oedema. Any type of ice or frozen products could be used but it is advisable to wrap them up in a towel.
4. In the next 48 hours of the surgery try to avoid lying on a flat pillow, it is better to rest in a half-seated position during the day and when sleeping at night.
5. Carefully look after the hygiene and cleaning of the teeth and mouth after the surgery. Improper cleaning of the teeth could cause a dental plaque to develop which is bacterial and could cause inflammation of the wound. This inflammation would negatively affect the success of the surgery.
6. Do not eat or drink dairy products and food produced from egg for few days after the surgery.
7. Take the right dose of the medicine prescribed by the dental surgeon. If it is an antibiotic, finish the full package in order to avoid further pain or inflammation.
8. Try to resist oedema by drinking a glass of Ca-Sandoz containing Calcium for 7 days following the surgery.
